High cholesterol can lead to premature heart disease and stroke. There are both good and bad types of cholesterol, so it is important to have your cholesterol checked, and to know if you need to lower the level of your bad ("LDL") cholesterol or the level of triglycerides (another measure of fat particles in the blood).
In some patients, diet and exercise modification can be sufficient to lower cholesterol to the recommended levels, but in many others, medications are needed. Our physicians will make the recommendations that are best for you.
